Project Overview

When one has little to no knowledge on the finance space and how to invest in their future, it can be overwhelming and confusing getting started. Argent is a finance tracker that allows users to set long & short term goals, track their progress, and learn to invest. This product takes finance tracking to a whole new level, giving users the ability to track both their savings & checking accounts, goals, and transactions all in one place.

Questions

What can help non-financially savvy users begin to invest in their future? What features will help users become most aware of their spending habits? How can we make a finance tracker be both useful and not overwhelming with terminology and visuals?

Solution

By researching and strategizing characteristics of financial products on the market, I came up with the following: implementing both tracking and transactions, monthly overviews that are automatically generated with the connection of bank accounts, the ability to set and track goals, and various resources giving users an insight into what it means and how to invest in the stock market.

Process Overview

Over the duration of six (6) weeks, I took time to understand the user.

Research & Planning

Conducted research to identify existing financial challenges and user preferences. Defined target audience segments and outlined key features based on user needs and market trends.

Design & Prototyping

Created intuitive user interfaces and interactive prototypes. Iteratively refined designs based on user feedback to enhance usability and visual appeal.

Development & Implementation

Leveraged agile development methodologies to build the financial app from the ground up. Prioritized feature development based on user feedback and technical feasibility.

Testing & Optimization

Conducted user testing with a variety of diverse users to ensure a positive experience for all. Gathered user feedback from the testing and iteratively optimized the app based on usability metrics.

Research & Planning

Competitive Analysis

I analyzed a couple of potential competing products that are currently on that market, and although none directly compete with Argent, there are aspects within these products that might still infringe upon the revenue and popularity of Argent.

Argent has the opportunity to capitalize on the fact that neither Oops nor Fidelity house the same features, making it the most useful all-in-one finance & goal tracker.

Some pain-points I discovered include:

Lack of free financial resources

Overwhelming interface

Not beginner friendly

Lack of accessibility features

Preparing the Journey

Development & Implimentation

After conducting the first usability study with a handful of diverse users, I received insightful feedback and worked to address the pain points.

Less clicks & better navigation

Simplifying the features

Prioritizing goals & resources

Prototypes & Design

After brainstorming the concept, identifying pain points, and creating user journeys & personas, I began to create wireframes of Argent. After very roughly sketching each frame with pen & paper, I used Figma to build out some of my designs.

I knew I wanted some sort of home screen that had access to all account balances and a high level goal tracker.

Design Thinking

After creating the low-fidelity prototypes, it was time to start thinking about the branding of Argent itself.

I decided on using hues of blue throughout the product, as the color of blue is often associated with calmness & serenity. Money is a stressful aspect of life for the majority of people, so I wanted to ease users as much as possible with the color scheme.

Second Round of Iterations

After creating the high-fidelity prototypes, it was time to go back to gathering data & insights. I found a second group of individuals to test Argent & perform a series of tasks that included adding a goal, adding a new bank account, and accessing the trading section of the product.

During the second user study, I received feedback that users felt "stuck."

With this insight, I worked to implement back arrows on most pages of the product.

Users also reported lack of depth within the product.

With this feedback, I updated buttons to include shadows, and adjusted the colors on the stocks page.
