Goodreads
A modern take on goodreads
As an avid reader, I love Goodreads as a platform to track what books I'm currently reading, what I'd like to read, and what my friends are reading. The concept of Goodreads is incredible, but the interface itself is extremely outdated. The categories on the navigation aren't great and it's nearly impossible to find new people & group's to follow.
Questions
How can we make it easier for users to find readers & groups to follow and join? What appearance updates can we make for interface to have more of a modern look? How can we improve the overall user experience and encourage more readers to join?
Solution
By chatting with a handful of real, unique & diverse users of Goodreads, I worked to identify a plethora of user pain points and improvements to to be made to the interface.
After understanding who the main users of Goodreads were, it was time to begin researching and developing insights. I sat down with a handful of current Goodreads users who explained their biggest pain points with the current interface of the product. I then worked to organize these insights and identified trends in frustrations.
Navigate the interface and have a seamless user experience.
Search for friends and find new readers to follow based on common reading interest.
See updates on the users book reviews and statuses.
After conducting a research study with a handful of diverse users, I received insightful feedback and worked to address the presented pain points. Taking into consideration accessibility standards, I also worked to implement a dark mode feature.
As an avid reader & goodreads user myself, redesigning a product that I'm familiar with was such a fun project!
Increased Efficiency
Users report significant time savings and improved productivity through the redesign of the platform.
Positive User Feedback
High user satisfaction ratings and positive reviews highlight the app's intuitive interface and new, modern look.
Challenges
One challenge that I did experience during this redesign was not being super familiar with how to restructure a product that is already on the market.
